DIVERSITY UNITED: Food Justice in Newark

Sections of Newark have been designated among the top 10 food deserts in New Jersey, communities where residents struggle to find healthy eating options.

Regular access to healthy food is hindered in food deserts by factors including the absence of supermarkets, poor public transit, low internet use, and high poverty rates, according to a recent analysis by New Jersey’s Economic Development Authority.

What can be done to increase access to food for the residents of Newark?

Join us on Tuesday, June 21st as food activists from the Greater Newark Conservancy, St. James Social Services, Community FoodBank of NJ, and Newark Science and Sustainability discuss Food Justice in Newark.

We are looking forward to seeing you.
