Simon Says, February 24, 2023

This week’s Torah portion is T’rumah.  I say always this time of year, the four portions beginning from T’rumah start with blueprints, the clothes closet, and the pantry.

The Tabernacle Steakhouse opened in May 2021.  It is kosher.  Befitting the name, the restaurant’s main dining room is two stories high (reminds me of the Four Seasons).  The restaurant has three menus; lunch, dinner, and desert.

The cold appetizers include Tuna Tartare, Steak Tartare, and Fluke Crudo.  The hot appetizers include Chicken Soup, Coconut Soup, Veal Tongue, and Grilled Flanken.

The dinner entrees include Ribeye, Surprise Steak, and Filet Mignon (it’s expensive; the sinew needs to be removed).

The dinner entrees also include Dry-Aged Hamburger, Roasted Chicken, Roasted Salmon, and Lamb Shank with Sage Polenta.

The lunch menu includes Fried Chicken Sandwich, Banh Mi Sandwich (a Vietnamese dish), Hamburger, and Spaghetti Bolognese.  The sides include French Fries, Sauteed Greens, and Herb Roasted Mushrooms.

Desserts include chocolate cake, doughnuts, and the chef’s selection of ice cream and sorbets.  I bet the ice cream doesn’t cream; the ice cream is pareve.

You can’t tell the prices from menus, but if go to Order Lunch to Go, there are prices.

The Banh Mi Sandwich costs $36.  The Dry Aged Hamburger costs $39.  The French Fries cost $16.  The Boneless Ribeye served with chimichurri (chimichurri is an uncooked sauce used both as an ingredient in cooking and as a table condiment for grilled meat. Found in Argentinian, Uruguayan and occasionally Chilean cuisines, the sauce comes in a green and red version) and cipollini onions costs $107.  If you are sitting in the dining room, you will prepare to pay more.

It’s a far cry from the half-shekel.  There is a series of pictures of the interior, and it is beautiful, befitting the name of Tabernacle.  The Torah says the Tabernacle was beautiful.  The Tabernacle Steakhouse is far beyond my means, the ancient Tabernacle admitted everybody, because the sacrifices were tailored to every person.
